Western Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has offered additional coal quantities to various power generation companies of central, west, and south India at a lower landed price. It will not only help the gencos to minimize their cost of power tariffs but also be a factor in cutting down the import of thermal coal in the interest of the nation.
Western Coalfields Limited has its mining operation in central India, which helps consumers of central, west, and south India to get cheaper landed coal. With locational advantage and phenomenal growth in production, WCL has offered 20-25 Million Tonnes of coal to State Gencos, National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, and other Independent Power Producers by swapping their linkage from other Coal Companies. It will be in addition to their existing linkage quantity with WCL.
Efforts will be made to complete the swapping procedure earliest. In that case, Western Coalfields Limited may start dispatching the additional quantity by October this year. The extra amount offered for swapping ranges from 3-6 Million Tonnes to different power generation companies, depending on their requirement. The amount will further increase in the future, subject to the availability of more surplus coal.
