Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju virtually interacted with World Anti Doping Agency President Witold Banka and reiterated India’s commitment towards promoting Clean Sports.
Speaking at the meeting, Rijiju said, “For years I have worked towards promoting Clean Sports, and now as Sports Minister of India, the dedication has only grown stronger. I am delighted to inform you that Clean Sports is a focus area for my Ministry. We are committed to cooperating with the World Anti Doping Agency to ensure Clean Sports is achieved globally.”
While discussing a plethora of issues, Rijiju also spoke of the National Dope Testing Laboratory’s readiness to conduct tests as per World Anti Doping Agency guidelines.
Minister Rijiju also invited the World Anti Doping Agency team to visit the National Dope Testing Laboratory for an on-site visit. “Once international travel resumes, I would request a World Anti Doping Agency team to visit NDTL. It will check if all upgrades are according to the satisfaction of the WADA. If anything else needs amendments, we will do that,” he said.
Inviting the World Anti Doping Agency President for an India visit, Rijiju also offered to extend support to the World Anti Doping Agency. He meant more significant financial contribution and human resources. “We are good at scientific research, and I feel that the presence of Indian representatives in your various committees will be beneficial. On behalf of my government, I would like to assure you that India is willing to extend all support as a member nation,” he said.
