President Ram Nath Kovind conferred this year’s National Sports and Adventure Awards virtually on National Sports Day. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju and many other dignitaries attended the ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Rijiju addressed the gathering and thanked the president for honoring the award winners in that crucial function, being held virtually because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He noted that this was the first-ever virtual awards presentation function where the Honorable President of India conferred the awards. His presence would only encourage our young sportspersons to better their performances in the future; he continued. He congratulated all the awardees as well.
Rijiju further acknowledged that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry is running many schemes for sports and adventure. Khelo India and Fit India are excellent examples. He added that they had prepared a long term plan with the aim that India will figure in the first ten winner countries at the Olympics of 2028.
Rijiju utilized the occasion to appeal to the Indian citizens to support sports and sportspersons. He also said that the award winners’ achievements would inspire an entire generation to take up sports.
