In a message at the inaugural session of the first World Solar Technology Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that technology holds the key to scale up solar energy use. Technological achievements have already brought about a significant reduction in the price of solar power. A further decrease in the cost will provide a substantial boost to renewable energy use and expansion. He expressed confidence that the summit will help develop new technologies and ensure that they become available.
More than 26,000 participants from 149 countries had registered to join the virtual summit. It is expected to bring the spotlight on accelerating affordable and sustainable clean energy by showcasing and deliberating on innovative next-generation technologies in solar power.
Modi reiterated that five years ago, world leaders had taken a pledge to restrict the rise in global temperature through a gradual reduction in the dependence on fossil fuels. He said that India’s per capita carbon emissions are the lowest in the world. Still, India’s commitment to adopt renewable energy helped it achieve the fourth rank globally in terms of renewable energy.
Modi also said, “The International Solar Alliance is a part of One Sun One World One Grid project. I firmly believe that this project can bring transformational benefits for the entire humanity.”
