Election Commissioner of India formally welcomes Rajiv Kumar

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra formally welcomed Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the Commission meeting. Fellow officers of the Commission, including Secretary-General Umesh Sinha, DECs, Directors, and Senior Principal Secretaries, were also present.

During the meeting, Arora recalled his rich administrative experience across various sectors, especially the Department of Personnel and Training, Banking, and Finance. He appreciated the pathbreaking work done by Kumar in his earlier assignments. He noted that his rich experience would immensely benefit the Commission.

Arora described the Election Commission as a family that seamlessly co-opts Central and State Governments’ vital support to conduct elections, maintaining its unique identity smoothly. He emphasized the Commission’s resolve to uphold and strengthen the lofty objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India – especially the Preamble thereof. Arora also mentioned recent work done by the Commission, especially in the area of Information Technology Applications, Accessibility, and Inclusion

In his welcome remarks, Chandra recalled his earlier experience of working with Kumar. He praised his clarity of thought and meticulous approach to work.

Kumar thanked Arora and Chandra for the warm welcome to the Election Commission of India family, adding that he felt extremely privileged and humbled by this graceful gesture. He spoke about the importance of robust Institutions of governance. He said he would try to give his best to the Commission.
